Six Sentence Sunday #35

The scene I’m using for SSS describes the wedding of Neal’s best friend, Sandy, to Sophie. The entire scene is in Neal’s POV.  During the ceremony Neal had some difficulty trying not to think about the one-night-stand he and Sophie shared. He had a harder time with memories of his first love, Laurie, who died before he said those three little words “I love you.”

April (and Sandy) grew up in Crescent City. She now lives with Neal in Los Angeles but still struggles with unrequited feelings for Sandy. The ceremony is over and Neal suggested to April that they go for a walk along the beach. Neal thinks about how content he is with his relationship with April; they live together but have never discussed marriage.

I'm skipping over Neal thinking about how empty he felt after Laurie died, and picking up with him addressing April. He’s just told her if getting married means a lot to her, he’ll do it. She called that the most lopsided proposal ever.
“Damn it, I’m not good at stuff like this. I know you miss going to church more often, and you miss your family, and you miss having a more settled life. I thought maybe being married would help with some of that.”

She pushed away and set her hands on her hips. “If you don’t honestly want to spend the rest of your life with me, quit talking about marriage. I’m not interested in a guy who doesn’t know what he wants.”

Half the fun of SSS is seeing comments on excerpts of your own work, but the other fun part is seeing the other snippets. There’s a fair amount of romance in the excerpts though several are not typical at all! There’s really something to please every reading taste.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Comments are gratefully accepted. There’s gingerbread men, eggnog, and old-fashioned filled candies for guests J Hey, they’re cyber treats and fat free!

  1. She's a sensible woman. I like her straightforwardness in telling him where she stands. I can't help but feel a bit sorry for Neal, though.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I hope you have a grand time. And a particular thank you for your comments and useful feedback over the past months. :)

    1. Thanks so much Elin. You're right about April, she is sensible. Neal sometimes isn't, and that's what makes him fun :)

  2. Oh, he's really not good at that, is he? Poor guy. I hope he doesn't run her off before she agrees to marry him. :)
