Six Sentence Sunday #34

The scene I’m using for SSS describes the wedding of Neal’s best friend, Sandy, to Sophie. The entire scene is in Neal’s POV.  During the ceremony Neal had some difficulty trying not to think about the one-night-stand he and Sophie shared. He had a harder time with memories of his first love, Laurie, who died before he said those three little words “I love you.”

April also grew up in Crescent City. She now lives with Neal in Los Angeles but still struggles with unrequited feelings for Sandy. The ceremony is over and Neal suggested to April that they go for a walk along the beach. Neal thinks about how content he is with his relationship with April; they live together but have never discussed marriage. He told April that he doesn’t want to leave her alone if anything happens to him. She asked why so many men think the world revolves around them and he protested that he didn't mean it that way. She winds up in his arms as they stand on the beach. I'm skipping over Neal thinking about how empty he felt after Laurie died, and picking up with him addressing April
“Are you happy just living with me, or are you pissed that I haven’t asked you to marry me?”
He felt her stiffen in his arms. “You’re not thinking of making a pity proposal, are you?”
“Pity doesn’t have anything to do with it. If getting married means a lot to you, I’ll do it. I don’t want to lose you.”
She laughed then said, “That’s the most lopsided proposal ever!”
Half the fun of SSS is seeing comments on excerpts of your own work, but the other fun part is seeing the other snippets. There’s a fair amount of romance in the excerpts though several are not typical at all! There’s really something to please every reading taste.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Comments are gratefully accepted. There’s eggnog, cranberry spread with crackers, and cinnamon-coated almonds for guests J Hey, they’re cyber treats and fat free!

  1. LOL I agree! But I think it's sweet that he's asking how she feels about it. Maybe he'll do a better job of the actual proposal. :)

  2. LOL, that IS a lopsided proposal! So this explains the earlier snippets when he's proposing to her on the stage and you'd said she'd turned him down... I really like Neal

    1. Wow, it's awesome of you to say you like him! He's always embarrassed when somebody says that, but he's smiling too. We both thank you.

  4. That Neal is such a confused soul--and he keeps sticking his foot in his mouth while he's figuring out life. :-)

    Nice snippet, Marcia!

I didn't do a six again this week, but thought I'd drop by to see how you're doing with Neal and Sandy. :-)

    1. heehee! Thanks Teresa. The best part is, he comes out like that all by himself. I tweak his dialogue but his voice is all his own.
