Weekend Writing Warriors 1/12/14

Heya. Would you guys make sure you answer WeWriWa's poll? As we're coming up on our first anniversay, we want to see what our participants feel about our blog hop. If we can make it better, we want to do that but we need some idea of what participants want.

Hello again peeps. Hope you’ve recovered from bad weather, if your area had any. Did you know parts of Niagara Falls *froze*? Don’t laugh at me next time I complain about the cold! J

Last week in my story Night Shift, Devorah was devastated to learn that Kazimir did go after the rabbi, as he’d told her he had to. Later, he shows up at her house apologizing. He’s weakened and sits on the floor leaning against the wall as they talk. Unable to forgive him and horrified at the sort of things Crossers do, she tells him she can’t go through with joining him. She doesn’t hold back letting him know how furious she is. Kazimir reacts to that this way:
(Collected excerpts from this story are here.)
He pushed himself up a little straighter. “I can feel how much you hate me. I hate me too at times like this.” Slowly, he reached to his ankle and slid a small revolver out from its holster, which he then put on the floor in front of me—.38 Special, probably. “Tell 911 I dropped the gun and you picked it up. Make it an eye for an eye.”

I blinked at the gun. God, it would be so simple.
Be sure to visit the Weekend Writing Warriors homepage for links to snippets from some pretty cool writers. I'm pretty picky about what I read and I've found several stories I can't wait to see more of every week. We range from lighthearted and romantic to sci fi, and historical. It's like being in a library, only better, 'cause you get to interact with the authors!

  1. Oh wow, I wasn't expecting that! He is a tortured soul for sure. And I bet she is so tempted. Great conflict both internal and between the two of them. Great job as always Marcia.

    1. Thanks Cindy. I'm a bit frustrated though because he's turning out to be more interesting that her, and she's the POV character! lol!

  2. Quite a twist! I'm not familiar with this story, so need to catch up. Sounds fascinating, Marcia.

    1. So nice to see you, Debbie. I've got the excerpts collected if you're interested--link's in the post just above the 8 sentences. :-)

  3. Wow, this was unexpected. Now I wonder what she will do.

    1. That's the question, isn't it? Thanks for coming by, Linda.

  4. What an interesting character to write-Tortured, doing the right things for the wrong reasons and the wrong things for the right reasons. Nice!

    1. Thanks! Maybe I should switch POV characters, I don't know. I like Kaz a lot but this was supposed to be Devorah's story. You just never know what you'll get when you sit down at the keyboard!

  5. He'll suffer enough for what he's done. Eye for an eye be damned in this case. Terrific eight that makes my blood simmer with rage.

    1. Hi Charmaine. Yeah, he'll suffer; maybe sooner rather than later ;-)

  6. I don't think she'll do it...will she? Oh, you have me hanging.

  7. Maybe you should try alternating points of view. (And I still wonder whether the demons can keep a virtuous soul.)

    1. I might try that, Sue Ann. My demons (and my angels for that matter) don't necessarily follow traditional guidelines. I have more leeway that way!

  8. Somehow I have a feeling this is some kind of test...will be fascinating to see what she does, what happens next. I'm really caught up in this story - excellent excerpt! So much at stake.

    1. Hi Veronica. It might be some kind of test...maybe perhaps ;-)

  9. I actually did hear about Niagara Falls freezing in part. No complaints here about your mentions of the cold. :)

Don't do it, Devorah! For one thing, an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind because it never stops. For another, there are punishments far worse than death.

  10. I thought I left an answer but it seems not to show up-
briefly, IF he did do the deed then he is feeling repentant and he wouldn't have to face her disappointment. But if he didn't (from the snippets I can't be sure, perhaps the full story tells more) then if she shoots him it will let him off the hook

  11. Kate and Chelle, you make some great points. What I really like about the story is that I can explore questions that don't have easy answers.

I'll pick up from this spot next Sunday :-)
