Six Sentence Sunday #36

The scene I’m using for SSS describes the wedding of Neal’s best friend, Sandy, to Sophie. The entire scene is in Neal’s POV.  During the ceremony Neal had some difficulty trying not to think about the one-night-stand he and Sophie shared. He had a harder time with memories of his first love, Laurie, who died before he said those three little words “I love you.”

April (and Sandy) grew up in Crescent City. She now lives with Neal in Los Angeles but still struggles with unrequited feelings for Sandy. The ceremony is over and Neal suggested to April that they go for a walk along the beach. Neal thinks about how content he is with his relationship with April; they live together but have never discussed marriage.

I'm skipping over Neal thinking about how empty he felt after Laurie died, and picking up with him addressing April. He’s just told her if getting married means a lot to her, he’ll do it. She called that the most lopsided proposal ever.
Neal rubbed the back of his neck and frowned at his feet. She was forcing him to be obvious. Well, all right, if she really wanted the old-fashioned stuff, that’s what he’d have to do.

He took a deep breath, got down on one knee in the soft sand, held both of her hands, and gazed up at her with all the sincerity he could dig up.

“April, I don’t have a ring, but will you marry me, because I really love you?”

With an indulgent smile, she pulled one hand free then gave him a sideways shove.
Half the fun of SSS is seeing comments on excerpts of your own work, but the other fun part is seeing the other snippets. There’s a fair amount of romance in the excerpts though several are not typical at all! There’s really something to please every reading taste.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Comments are gratefully accepted. There’s gingerbread men, eggnog, and old-fashioned filled candies for guests J Hey, they’re cyber treats and fat free!

EDIT: I've just found out Skye Warren is looking to gauge interest in continuing Six Sentence Sunday, which is scheduled to end as January closes. If you're a writer with any interest in seeing this project continue, go sign up!

Poor Neal! She doesn't think he's being sincere! Great 6!

  3. Nice! Love how he's being molded like putty. She's already leading him around by a ring in his nose. And that has been a long time coming for Neal! :-)
