The scene I’m using for Six Sentence
Sunday describes the wedding of Neal’s best friend, Sandy, to Sophie, from
Neal’s POV. It takes place under a tent on the beach at Crescent City,
California, Sandy’s hometown. During the ceremony Neal had some difficulty
trying not to think about the one-night-stand he and Sophie shared. He had a
harder time with memories of his first love, Laurie, who died before he said
those three little words “I love you.”
April also grew up in Crescent City
and now lives with Neal in Los Angeles. Just before today’s excerpt, the
wedding proceedings came to an end and now everybody is about to leave the
tent. Miranda and Robin are the maids of honor.
Delicate chiming floated through the tent from tiny bells the wedding party carried, and Miranda and Robin threw flower petals on the couple as they started toward the tent entrance. The crowd spilled into the aisle behind them; Neal hung back. “I know we’re supposed to follow everybody, but the thought of being cooped up in some dim hall after spending most of the morning on the beach almost gives me a migraine.”April squeezed his hand. “I’ve missed the beach. I forgot how much I love this place.”“Come on then.”
Half the fun of SSS is seeing
comments on excerpts of your own work, but the other fun part is seeing the
other snippets. There’s a fair amount of romance in the excerpts though several
are not typical at all! There’s really something to please every reading taste.
Thank you for stopping by my blog
today. Comments are gratefully accepted. There’s cider, tea, donuts, and hot
buttered rolls for guests J : )
Oh, sounds like their about to have some fun on their own. Great idea to me! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know Jessica, when Neal's with a woman, having fun is often usually uppermost in his mind. But this is no ordinary day :)
DeleteBased on the revelations to the reader of their misplaced feelings, I'm very curious as to what's going to happen to them on the beach.
ReplyDeleteED, thanks for coming by. I've got a few more excerpts from this scene so I hope you'll be back.
DeleteNeal really had a tough time with Sandy's wedding. There are different emotional triggers going on for him--and you're painting that well. April, and Neal's memory of the fling with her seem, from what I've read, to be the worst one. Another great six! :-)
ReplyDeleteDagnabbit! I wrote the wong girl. Oy! I can't see the comment right now, but am sure I wrote about Neal having had a fling with April. ~blush~ I meant Sophie! :-)
